Another line of bull

City staff made a presentation at a city council meeting the other day that addressed our streets program.

Way back in 2012 council approved $136,000 to start to fix some of our streets.  As it turns out the $136,000 did not include a few things:

Maybe we should feel lucky that the cost estimates included some asphalt.  How could a reasonable person present the $136,000,000 without providing for these things?

What will the total come to?  Take a look at the very next chart in the presentation:

The chart above still leaves off cost items that could be significant.

We deserve better

Is this blog now the El Paso Onion? Can this be real???

I think the costs of Polk street and the bump installations and removals in front of Cathedral more than exceeded $136 grand. There’s also been a lot of other work since 2012 so even with good watchdogs with their microscopes we may be detecting just the tip of a huge iceberg of wasteful financial planning and spending on our streets, not to mention many other “pending projects.” . Being “progressive” in this city has gotten way out of hand.

and now they’re up to $13,0000,0000 for a 50-meter swimming pool !!!!!!!!!!!! but the thing that upset Niland was that a young girl thanked the city manager

Did you mean 13 with 8 zeros or 13 with 6 zeros? I think 6. Just another example of how this city is perceived as a bottomless well at the expense of the taxpayers and probably sticking us with another long term bill that will outlast most of the sitting council and staff.

The same thing happened with the QoL estimates for CC:
“Oh, you want these staffed and maintained; sorry, not in the cost.”

That was after the vote on the issue, one of TG’s first surprises from the Wilson legacy.

  5. Reality Checker says:

We don’t have enough money to repair our streets, but we are going to spend $1 million to close a bunch of them during the Pope’s visit even though he is not even coming to El Paso. Next, we’ll be told this is all a blessing.

  6. Why do all those extras have to be done for simple repaving of our sorry streets? I don’t recall them being done in years past – many years ago, when streets were kept up.

Always read the fine print or is this a switch and bait ?

Wonder if city council will take the bait if I send an email telling them for a small investment they can claim large sums of money. Just a small investment to get the money released from the bank.
