Limited government

That the people have an original right to establish, for their future government, such principles, as, in their opinion, shall most conduce to their own happiness, is the basis on which the whole American fabric has been erected…

This original and supreme will organizes the government, and assigns to different departments their  respective powers.  It may either stop here, or establish certain limits not to be transcended by those departments.

The government of the United States is of the latter description.  The powers of the legislature are defined and limited; and that those limits may not be mistaken, or forgotten, the constitution is written.  To what purpose are powers limited, and to what purpose is that limitation committed to writing, if these limits may, at any time, be passed by those intended to be restrained?

Chief Justice John Marshall in Marbury v. Madison, 1803.

Time to start a new political party – The American Christian Party. It would be based on the principles that made this country great – God, Country, hard work, honesty, respect and caring for others. What has to stop is the violence, the liberal freebies for those who don’t earn them, and a system that allows anyone to do as they please without appropriate consequences. The you must do as I want while I do as I please must end for we have taken ourselves to the brink of ruin.

Go right ahead, but most of the self-proclaimed conservative Christian politicians also insist that we do what they want, while they do as they please. Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley and South Carolina congressman Mark Sanford immediately come to mind, but there is a long list of conservative Christian hypocrites holding office. So, no thank you. I prefer to support individuals over any party regardless of its name and ideology.

      • And, Rodney, my boy, you need to study the history of the founding of this nation a whole lot more closely. This nation was not founded on any religion! IOW, God had nothing to do with the founding of this nation! What liberal freebies, exactly, are you referring to, by the way?

Should we assume that you have no concern about free taxpayer-funded ballparks for conservative, Christian Republicans?
