Sitting on their hands while we endure

Why is it that no one down at the city is trying to help us with the multiple traffic messes we are enduring?

People are dying.

People are facing unbelievable daily delays in their commute.

Some will say that our city officials have no authority over state projects.  That may be true, but our city officials do have a giant soapbox that they should use.

It appears that they did recently authorize the mayor to ask the state to lower the speed limit on I-10.

That is at least something.

Why don’t they ask the state to perform the construction in a less disruptive manner?

If you have an idea, bring it forward please.

We deserve better

Lowering the speed limit on I 10 is a waste of time. There is no policing in that area. Where would the police pull someone over? The shoulders on the road are gone. Besides, the problem is that there are those that are speeding already. A change in the speed limit won’t magically make them go the speed limit. Additionally, why make it take even longer to make the commute? Your reasoning confuses me.

Exactly right. On I 10, Highway 54, it’s a RACE TRACK. 100 MPH, plus for bikers. Same for all those little “lawn mower” cars, others at 80 -90 MPH plus, weaving in and out. Maybe the El Paso Police don’t have any cars that are not junk, any more, because we hardly ever see them. Mostly see a car stopped , it’s Texas DPS or Sheriff up on the mountain. Since the City has no way to collect the 59 MILLION$$$ plus in unpaid tickets, maybe the Police figure it’s a waste of time doing citations, showing up to court? Very few patrols, radar units, few to no stops? IF the Mayor, City Council WANT to see all this, get out on the STREETS, look around. But they just make “decisions” without knowing what’s going on. Maybe all our Police are working downtown at the City Council, Foster baseball field?

Because the POLITICIANS, Public Officials in El Taxo are incapable, incompetent to organize, accomplish anything, except TAX INCREASES. Tax, waste, spend, tax some more. The ONLY reason that we have a Mayor, City Manager(?), County Commissioners, is that we “Stupid, ignorant peons” NEED people to make our lives as miserable as possible and spend our money.

  4. First of all, Haiduc, you need to remember that these are NOT government leaders. The people to whom Brutus, and now, you, have referred are supposed to be our representatives, carrying out our will! That said, we cannot have it both ways. We either want progress, which means construction, or we do not. Given our history of always, always finding someone else to foot the bill (in this case, TXDOT), wouldn’t it be especially hypocritical for our city to now try to dictate to them how to carry out their business?

    Dear Brutus,
You expect way too much from Government Leaders.
