Since we have a new mayor and will soon have five new members of city council (out of eight) let us again ask that tell us what the cost of operating the proposed multipurpose performing arts center will be. The report should also tell us what income the center will generate.
The fight seems to be focused on where the facility will be.
It seems to us that before we start to build it that we should know if we can afford to operate it.
We deserve better

The arena will turn out just like the baseball stadium- a business investment gone sour That never had a hope of doing anything except providing tax credits to the private business and the ability to write off losses to offset income. El Paso may have the vocal enthusiasm to support soccer and baseball, however it doesn’t have the extra spendable/disposable income to afford supporting regular outings to see 2nd and third rate sports being played. Arguing about where to put the arena is a diversion. I don’t recall being asked if we should have an arena.Of course “they” never asked if I wanted a baseball park either.

I agree with Ripper1951. Location of the unnecessary arena is not important, and discussion of that is just a distraction. The original QoL issue did not even designate this item as such, anyway. Abandon the entire idea, and focus on finding a useful purpose for what was once a great ball park, and what is still a better option than what is downtown, Cohen Stadium.

The whole Q of L thing is just an attempt to increase property values for the REIT investors. We can’t afford any of it without significant new business growth. Don’t see that happening.

The Olympic size swimming pool,The Civic Center, Cohen Stadium, the Baseball Boondoogle, Westside swimming pool, Bicycle lanes, Tear down City Hall, the proposed Arena, the City bicycle project. The list of spectacular financial disasters forced on the taxpayers of El Paso by our ‘leaders’ goes on and on and on. Anyone want to predict what the next idiotic, over priced, unneeded boondoggle will be?

Well of course the TAXPAYERS can “afford” to build this Arena for the City Councils “Friends, family” or whatever bizness, PERSON they want to build it for. Another TAXPAYER scam, like when John Cook, Wilson, City Council FORCED, scammed TAXPAYERS into buying the ball field for Mountain Star Sports, Foster. The City Councils little multi-million$$$ trolley car scam, er, ah deal. “Afford”?? Strange you need to ask. The Mayor., Council will simply put in a call to the other fantasy entity, Central Appraisal. Tell them to do, fabricate, inflate, property “Values”, AGAIN. They will and it will be followed very fast by a TAX INCREASE on the TAXPAYERS, by the City, County. “Afford” is a subjective term in El Taxo. WE can “afford” whatever THEY want. WE don’t have any say in the matter.
