Living within our means

Our recent posts about residential, commercial, industrial, and apartment property tax rates showed that we have tax rates higher than virtually every other city among the 50 largest cities in the United States.

Remember that the voters have authorized funding a $180 million multi-purpose performing arts center and hundreds of millions in school district bonds that have not been sold yet and thus have not been added to our tax burden yet.

We deserve better

With sentiment running so strongly against that multi-purpose quien sabe que, and things being as messed up as they are, it would sure be nice if just one elected representative was to speak up about now and say, “Whoa! Let’s slow this down. Maybe we could table these yuge expenditures until we get things under control.” But, I do not see that happening any time soon.

I have a great idea: Let’s have the readers on this blog run for city council and end this travesty since they have the answers to solving all El Paso problems: Here is the lineup:

    Brutus for Mayor

    Anon: District 1
    Annon: District 2
    Anonymous: District3
    Anon II: District 4
    Tom Busch: District 5
    Sick and Tired: District 6
    Anonymous!!!: ! District 7
    Huh?: District 8

And of course Fed UP! for City Manager.

Given the track record of candidates not taking money from our major donors actually winning an election I can understand why people choose to comment on a blog versus throwing good money away trying to run for office here.

You got it right. We the TAXPAYERS could write it in, call it in and do it better, CHEAPER than the local tax, waste, spend, tax some more “Representatives(?). They do nothing for US. All about them and the money, people who give them the “Donations” to do whatever THEY want, what is best for THEM. We run it by blog, call it all in, no lying, denying, deceiving, covering up, SECRET meetings, hiding . Government by We the People. Strange concept, I know.

I live in district one. I’m an old, cranky white man. I’m thinking about. With those credentials I should be a shoe in in my neighborhood. And I’m pretty sure I can beat the fat coke head.

what we don’t see from local politicians is any semblance of fiscal restraint or responsibility. my annual taxes, broken down into monthly payments, are enough to purchase a new vehicle plus rent a luxury apartment. they are literally stealing my retirement.

Please note that the turnout of voters for the QoL bond vote was very tiny. Everyone talks about the 71% yes vote, but what was it, 71% of ten percent? That’s how we roll here…

Absolutely agree with John Dungan. Maybe what we need in El Taxo is an “Education” system for VOTERS (No not EPISD, doing the “Educating”). EPISD, Juan Cabrera, the so-called “Trustees”, always use the same scam, con, “Its for the children”, or maybe Cabrera just needs a new pair of shoes. Regardless of the scam, excuse, SOME voters will vote for anything. And the City of El Taxo politicians, well they are a whole other scam, con of voters, taxpayers. “We have to blow off this MILLONS, BILLIONS$$$$ because the local idle rich that BUY our elections, campaign “Donations” WANT something”. “We have to blow off these MILLIONS, BILLIONS$$$ in taxpayer money to buy this, build this, have this so that touristas passing through on I-10 will stop, get gas, lunch, dinner and blow off a $1,000 for a NIGHT in a MULTI-MILLION$$$ hotel, water park”. The Texas Governor, Representatives recently passed into LAW, new Property TAX Laws. I would bet that EPISD, the City, County of El Taxo went out and hired MILLIONS$$$ in Lawyers to find ways around to NOT give any tax cuts, benefits and ways to keep on increasing taxes. It’s the price we have to pay for the “Privilege” of living in El Taxo.

There is a cheaper way to accomplish this and will benefit Juarez, too. Just bring back the bullfights, City Market and the Mariscal. No one stops in El Paso for anything.

Exactly, Jerry K. Nobody stops in El Taxo for anything. Well maybe lunch, dinner, a night in a motel if they are going further East, West. North. But gas is cheaper in New Mexico, Arizona, Midland, Austin, Dallas. Same for motels. Well except for Midland-Odessa, that’s a “Gold mining” town now. High prices, high paying jobs. The touristas are just never going to stop in El Taxo to blow-off their vacation budget, $700-1,000 a NIGHT for the Wolf Lodge water park. A great CON, but never make it HERE. 🙂

Unfortunately I think you are right about the Wolf Lodge. But people might stop here if the delights in Juarez returned to their one time glory (see above post). You could do the Hemingway thing and enjoy a bulfight, get the original margarita at the Kentucky Club, buy that souvenir sombrero and nickel silver ring you always wanted at City Market, and then around the corner for some adult entertainment in the Mariscal.

Could work and might even save Wolf Lodge?

Unfucking unbelivable. Have the Dems gone crazy? Why do you want these people – sick; uneducated; unskilled – in our country?

Well, Jerry, because they are uneducated, unemployed, on welfare, living on the backs of taxpayers, illegally in the country, THEY can be expected to vote for Democrats who will give THEM all of the FREE stuff.

It bothers me that there are homeless people on almost every traffic island in this city and we care more about illegals who will get housing, food, medicine than our own here, some of whom are vets.

People begging, bumming on every  medium, street corner in El Taxo.   Think the local politicians look at this as “Employment is UP”.  Not  to mention AMERICAN Citizens, homeless, Vets live under bridges, on the streets and  make-shift camps out in the desert.    But the  Padres, politicians, do gooders are like “We have to take care of the Illegals”.    Food, clothing, a place to live, sleep, medical care,  with  all the comforts.   And yet AMERICANS are no better here than  homeless dogs, looking for that “Bone”, just trying to survive.  These  thousands, MILLIONS of Illegals created   their situation, problems.   Let them SURVIVE as best they can.  Give the  benefits, food, care, HELP to  OUR Citizens.

Here’s the way it works: if you want to change a country you pack it with poor immigrants as quickly as possible. They have kids who are birthright citizens and those kids vote for policies that benefit their parents. We are already seeing the voting influence of the kids that are the result of the illegals who came during Fox’s one foot in Mexico program. The current invasion if allowed to stay will permanently tip the balance in favor of Dem socialists because as a country we are about 50/50 in that direction from a national voting perspective. This is also why the Dems want to lower the voting age.
