Proud to thwart transparency

As part of the city’s 2020 budget process this slide was included to tell us what their legal department did last year:

Note that they tell us that they processed 5,469 open records requests.

They seem to be proud of the fact that they got the Texas attorney general to support denying release of information on 482 of them.

They could of told us that they handled the requests so well that on average they responded within X days, thus providing good service and promoting transparency.

Instead they focused on telling us how often they were able to deny information.

We deserve better

And, how much of our tax money did they piss away in their desperate attempts to tear down more of the old to build something else we do not need?

So far I have no complaints about the city’s ‘open records requests’ procedures, and have received the data I’ve requested. If you elect to get your data via the internet it was free. If you want a ‘hard copy’ you will pay a fee. Found the request intake staff people were helpful and courteous.

The word in the slide should be “Devices” not “Devise.”

Richard Wright, over on “El Chuqueño,” is sharing a survey for city residents, if anyone is interested. http://elchuqueno.com/survey-says-2/
