Well they got us again.
In Maximum tax increase from the city we pointed out that while city council took a preliminary vote to increase our property tax rate to 88 cents per hundred dollars of valuation they simultaneously published notice in the Times that they would increase the rate to 90.73 cents.
When it came time to finalize the budget they used the 90.73 cent rate. Three of the members that are up for re-election voted against or vetoed the increase.
Note that we did not hear much explanation as to why they voted against the increase.
It seems that they were only concerned with what their vote would like to the voters.
We deserve better

So what. At least they voted against it. Who were they?

I read only 2 voted against. Rivera D7 and Morgan D4. Both seats are on the ballot in 2020.

That was the vote to override Margo’s veto of the new budget. The council voted 6-2 with city Reps. Alexsandra Annello, Cassandra Hernandez, Cissy Lizarraga, Claudia Ordaz Perez, Isabel Salcido and Peter Svarzbein in favor of overriding the veto, which was just enough. City Reps. Sam Morgan and Henry Rivera voted against the move.

Thanks!
Do you know which 3 voted against the budget?

Vote out all incumbents. A vote against a tax increase they knew would pass doesn’t cancel out all the votes for frivolous spending they made in office. None of these folks care about the average El Pasoan. Anyone who has Community Scholars in their resume has been groomed to tax and spend for big donors. Anyone backed by construction and developers has also been groomed to tax and spend by big donors. Look for the outliers. This is an off year election which means the college students who vote for free stuff and don’t understand property taxes will probably stay home. So intelligent voting will count more. And definitely vote no on the bond issue. It is just another handout to our construction lobby.
