One of our loyal readers sent this in with the note “You can’t make this up”.
From El Paso Inc.
The National Procurement Institute has awarded the city of El Paso Purchasing & Strategic Sourcing Department the 2019 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award. The award is earned by public and nonprofit organizations that obtain a high application score based on innovation, professionalism, e-procurement procedures, productivity and leadership. It is the sixth year in a row that the city has received the award.
Many of us can say first hand that they are innovative.
We deserve better

It is innovative to be able to almost completely eliminate fairness in the procurement bidding process, but excellence comes when you can also eliminate local vendors as well.
The gold standard, however, is the ability to give contracts to whoever you want without the need to worry about pesky process.

You haven’t seen anything yet. Wait until the safety bond gets passed. Then you will see how inventive the city and council can get.

All these bs awards the city brags about are like a kid winning the middle school science fair competition, but failing his science classes.

This is the first paragraph of the application you have to fill out to get that award:
“The application fee is $400 for NPI members or $600 for non-members. Payment of the non-refundable application fee must be made electronically by credit card or procurement card when the application is submitted.”
The City spent tax dollars to buy that award and then they paid someone to put out a news release about it.

How can anyone be all that surprised when many moons ago, Wilson won some award from Texas and Cook won the “Mayor of the World” award. This truly is a Dilbert world…..only more cartoon-ish.

Want to “like” all these comments! Bet the City will spend its last money applying for the award as it files for bankruptcy…anyone going to vote for Carlos Gallinar for mayor to ensure said bankruptcy?
