Self service or no service?

Someone sent this in:

I heard the other day that Walmart was going to be closed Christmas day.

Evidently they want to give their two checkers the day off.

We deserve better

Someone is upset about a major retailer closing on Christmas Day and letting employees have that one day off? We are a sick society.

They should be closed on Thanksgiving Day too. Black Thursday nonsense is crazy. We wonder what’s happened to society. The loss of the American family. We’d rather go shopping than sit around a table actually talking to each other.

Albertson is as bad as Walmart!

On Wednesday and Thursdays the district mangers are in town,

Soooo I approached the gentleman and informed him that I live the fact that Albertson is part of the Vons and Safeway system.

Told him I was glad to see Safeway back in town as it had owned it until outsider union organizers took over the district.

Told him I do not like self checkout and do not use it.

He was very polite told me that he was surprised that 40% of shoppers love.
    I responded that means 60% don’t.

Sorry for any typos or auto check

Stand in line or go to the cigarette counter to check out.

If you don’t do self check or leave your basket they will change.

Why are you are upset about self checkout? Albertson’s still has cashiers including express lanes. Self checkout is not going away. You can always go to Walmart or Target. Oh, wait, they too have self checkout. Or you can stop buying groceries and eat at McDonald’s. On second thought, they are adding self-service kiosks and eliminating cashiers. Like it or not, things change.

How about this? Less service, but still more money. If I have to work to checkout my own groceries, shouldn’t I get a discount on my purchase? Nope. I still pay the same amount plus I have to do THEIR job. You can thank the increases to the minimum wage for messing things up for everyone.

Minimum wage has nothing to do with it. Self checkout has been around for more than 10 years. Companies are always trying to squeeze out every extra penny of profit. Those CEOs need more money.

It has everything to do with it. Yes the technology has been around for about a decade but once minimum wages started going up it was the perfect time for the technology to replace employees. It became more cost effective to install these machines that over pay entry level employees.

I don’t understand why this is an issue for discussion. Some people don’t mid working holidays, some places don’t mind being open holidays.

    These are not government services.

I notice no teachers are working most holidays, but there are police officers working EVERY holiday.

Anybody who thinks the stores should close for holidays can buy them and then do whatever you want, they will be yours to do with as you wish.

I have yet to see any reports of American businesses kidnapping workers en masse and forcing them to be anywhere on holidays. It would be safe to assume anyone working on Christmas day, or any holiday, agreed to do so. Do they like it? I didn’t know that was a prerequisite. Who likes working, and who agrees with every decision the people they work for make?

Likewise anyone who wants Walmart to be open on Christmas, can buy Walmart and run the chain how they see fit. I haven’t heard anyone here bitch about Chick-Fil-A being closed every Sunday.

I’m not sure why you would be bothered that Walmart wants to give the MANY employees that it takes to open a store on Christmas Day a day off. I am glad people get to spend time home with family. I find it so convenient to use self check out when I want to, or the clerks can assist and check out for me when it’s more convenient. Let’s just be happy people can enjoy their family and I hope that I am organized and don’t forget anything for my Christmas dinner. Either way nobody has the right to tell someone how to run their business and if they want to close then close!!
