Little people or Lilliputians?

December 29, 2016

Frankly I never thought that we would hear someone say what Mr. Rutt Lilly said to a KTSM camera crew the other day.

It took Reality Checker, one of our regular readers, to point it out.

The recording can be viewed here:

What I heard him say was:  “These little people, they run for these offices, and they think they are very, very important.”

Lilliputian

Good grief.  I hope to see Mr. and Mrs. Lilly out in public sometime.  We might discuss smallness.

Please forgive the play on words, it was too hard to resist.

The arena–ongoing costs

December 27, 2016

Would it be too much to ask of city council that they show us an analysis of the cost to run the proposed arena along with reasonably projected revenue?

How much will operating and maintaining the arena add to our annual budget?

Defining poor taste

December 26, 2016

One of our former city representatives was involved in a dust up with our mayor the other day.

The former city representative was at one time being investigated for threatening a city employee.  The case seems to have disappeared and we never heard what conclusions law enforcement officials came to.

Many feel that she was “given a pass” by our district attorney.  Over and out discussed the situation in more detail.

This time we are being told that she and her husband accosted our mayor in the presence of his wife.

The former city representative and her husband are entitled to their opinions.  However, accosting the mayor at dinner in a public restaurant in front of the mayor’s wife shows us their lack of class.

There are many better ways to express their thoughts.

Shoehorn needed

December 24, 2016

If they tear down the convention center how long will it be before we start hearing that the city needs bond money to build a new one?

It seems that we may need to get a bigger downtown if they continue to cram stuff into it like they are doing now.

No destination in El Paso

December 23, 2016

If the city moves forward with the plans of some of the city council members that would tear down our existing convention center and replace it with an arena what will happen to Destination El Paso, the city department that is responsible for booking conventions?

Would it be silly to suggest that the department be eliminated since they will not have a convention center to offer?

For decades the complaint from the department has been that there are not adequate hotels in the vicinity of the convention center.  Simply put, no big convention could be enticed to come to El Paso.

Now several hotel projects have been started and at least one has been completed.

Will we now have hotels but no convention center?

What purpose will the department serve without a convention center?

Maybe they could entice tourists to come see the egg-beaters on I-10 out by the airport.

We deserve better
