EPISD–car rentals

March 24, 2018

Dan Wever sent this in with the comment “Guess they never heard of UBER!  :)”

These checks were evidently written by EPISD.

The full list shows checks written to a car rental firm and goes back to 2013.

How many cars do you have to rent to get one bill for ten thousand dollars?

EPISD–bond advisory committee meetings

March 16, 2018

It looks like there is going to be another dust-up at the next meeting of the EPISD board.

There is one item on the Wednesday, March 21, 2018 meeting agenda:

Board Members’ Attendance at Citizens’ Bond Advisory Committee Meeting

Are they going to discuss requiring the board members to attend the advisory committee meetings?

Or are they going to try to keep the board members from attending the meetings?

Either way the district is going to look bad.

We deserve better

EPISD–algebra scores

March 14, 2018

The chart below shows how students at various local high schools did on their state algebra tests last year:

An explanation of the Approaches and Masters columns:

APPROACHES GRADE LEVEL
Performance in this category indicates that students are likely to succeed in the next grade or course
with targeted academic intervention. Students in this category generally demonstrate the ability to
apply the assessed knowledge and skills in familiar contexts.

MASTERS GRADE LEVEL*
Performance in this category indicates that students are expected to succeed in the next grade or course
with little or no academic intervention. Students in this category demonstrate the ability to think
critically and apply the assessed knowledge and skills in varied contexts, both familiar and unfamiliar.

Why?

The EPISD students scored far below the YISD and SISD students.

Is it the students?  Is it the teachers?  Is it the way teaching the subject is administered?

Something is dreadfully wrong here.

The tax poem

March 10, 2018

This was sent in recently.  We don’t know who the author is.

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table,
At which he’s fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for
peanuts anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won’t be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He’s good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he’s laid…

Put these words
Upon his tomb,
‘Taxes drove me
to my doom…’

When he’s gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

We deserve better
