EPISD–school hours

July 21, 2017

An alert reader let us know that EPISD is planning to change school hours next year.

The proposed schedule is:

8:15 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.–elementary schools

7:50 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.–middle schools

8:45 a.m. to 3:55 p.m.–high schools

At this point we don’t know if these changes will require board approval.

EPISD–2016 legal services

July 15, 2017

This came in from Dan Wever:

EPISD 2016 legal services

$5,290,227.00

Was looking at some stuff and came across this figure totaled from TEA data.

This is a WOW to me.

EPISD superintendent

July 6, 2017

This came in the other day from the Wizard:

The current EPISD Superintendent, in the not so distant past, enjoyed wide-spread support from much of the Leftist elite in El Paso.   Leftists young and old, some media, and others of similar ilk supported the EPISD bond, the Superintendent’s programs de jour, made excuses for his salary, and generally saluted Mr. Cabrera.

But fortune seems to have changed.  Now that the Superintendent is perceived as supporting Dori Fenenbock for congress over the current County Judge, who is widely speculated to announce a run when politically expedient, some leftists appear in revolt.

I’m no apologist for Mr. Cabrera and have for some time been critical of his leadership.  But I am truly disgusted by how fickle his Leftist friends seem to be.  I hear some being openly critical of travel expenses (exposed by The El Paso Times), how the bond is being rolled out, the Superintendent’s raise, management techniques, and more.

Last year at this time, the Left would have excused and did excuse such blunders.  But, Mr. Cabrera, you have thrown-in with the wrong candidate and the left is punishing you; or so I think.

I wish you the best and am sad to see this happen.

Independence day 2017

July 4, 2017

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.  Benjamin Franklin

Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.   John Stuart Mill

EPISD helps the citizens

July 3, 2017

It was a pleasure to read about something that we think is good in the Times the other day.

The city and EPISD are entering into an agreement that will allow members of the public to use recreation facilities at 31 schools.

Quality of life will improve and we thank both groups of elected officials for this.

This was better
