Hiring your own judge

May 11, 2018

Our city attorney has resigned.

From our point of view she has been an enabler of much of the nonsense that city council is imposing on us.

For those of you who have not been reading the blog for long and that want some examples, please enter “city attorney” in the search box below.

A new city attorney will be chosen by a majority vote of city council.  The mayor is considered a member of city council.

We have an opportunity to clean up a problem here but it is doubtful that council will choose someone who will stand up to them and tell them when they cannot do something.

Watch the selection process carefully.

Fired or retired?

May 10, 2018

It seems that our soon to be ex-city attorney is still having trouble with the truth.

A week or so ago she announced that she will be retiring at the end of May.

The Times tells us that she will be receiving $251,000 as part of her separation agreement.

What kind of job pays severance when retiring?

We’ve never heard of someone getting paid an extra six months of their salary when they retire.

It is far more likely that she was terminated and that her employment contract provided for severance pay.

We deserve better

Ingrates

May 9, 2018

Students at George Washington University have petitioned to change their nickname.

Evidently they feel that being called “colonials” is offensive and oppressive.

Understanding history might be inconvenient to these students.

During the revolutionary war we were in fact colonies of England.  Our citizens fought for our freedom from monarchy and the right to establish our own government.

The “colonials” did something that has changed the course of history to the immense good of mankind.

We deserve better

Chime in

May 8, 2018

The city is running a program that they call Chime In.

According to their web site:

The City of El Paso is working on the FY 2019 budget and we want to hear from you, our citizens!

They offer a short survey.  You can take it here.

This is better.

More from the superintendent

May 7, 2018

The Ysleta school district superintendent evidently has “denied that the school supported the walkout…” in an interview with the Times.

Does anyone know how the students learned of the walkout?

Even if there really was a 6th grader that learned of the national walkout through sources other than the school, I doubt that his or her classmates would pay much attention.

Google offered “enable to function or act” as a definition of the word support.

It is a fact that the teachers allowed about 400 students to walkout of class.

The superintendent is wrong.

We deserve better
