Shrinking revenue

December 20, 2017

Our tax and spend city council got some bad news at their Tuesday, December 19, 2017 meeting.

The city lowered their revenue projections for this year’s budget compared to last year’s actual receipts.

The actual results came in even lower:

Buses vs Police, Fire, and streets

December 19, 2017

If you break down the 8.25% sales tax we pay locally the city gets 1.5%.  The state gets 6.25% and the county the remaining .5%.

Incredibly the city has allocated a third of their portion  (.5%) to Sun Metro leaving 1% to help fund operations.

Solving our problems for only $1,000

December 18, 2017

Our westside district representative is even more capable than we thought.

He has decided that he wants to host an event called “Sunday Morning Kern Place Art & Farmers Market” and he needs city council’s approval.

This is the resolution that he placed on council’s agenda:

Ignoring the grammatical errors we can see that this one event “creates an environment conducive to strong sustainable economic development”.

Wow!

The event also “enhances and sustains El Paso’s infrastructure network”.

It “sets the standard for a safe and secure city”.

Baloney!  Talk about a puffed up sense of self importance.

We deserve better

Gasoline pricing

December 17, 2017

Can someone explain to us why gasoline is still sold with a price that goes down to the tenth of a cent per gallon (e.g. $2.43 9/10 or $2.439)?

El Paso real estate market

December 16, 2017

This came in the other day:

Hi Brutus,

I was wondering if you had a chance to check out the study our team of researchers put together regarding the housing affordability levels of the 50 most populous cities in North America.

According to the report, El Paso stands out as the most affordable real estate market in Texas and the 4th most affordable in the U.S.

Here’s the link to the research, with data on all of the 50 cities, some visuals and extra details for each: https://www.point2homes.com/news/canada-real-estate/housing-affordability-north-america.html
