City considering climate control issues

July 10, 2017

While city council is dealing with the annual budget process we have this item on the Tuesday, July 11, 2017 city council agenda.

Should they really be spending time on the Paris Climate Accord?

Quality of Life–eventually

July 8, 2017

If you go to the city’s website and enter “Quality of Life” in the search box you will get this graphic:

We approved the $450 million in bonds in 2012 and as of June 25, 2017 the city is telling us that they have completed $28 million in projects.

The situation tells us a lot about how poorly conceived and planned the bond issue was.  Since then a new city manager and elected officials have inherited the mess.

Can we afford the “arena”?

July 7, 2017

Since we have a new mayor and will soon have five new members of city council (out of eight) let us again ask that tell us what the cost of operating the proposed multipurpose performing arts center will be.  The report should also tell us what income the center will generate.

The fight seems to be focused on where the facility will be.

It seems to us that before we start to build it that we should know if we can afford to operate it.

EPISD superintendent

July 6, 2017

This came in the other day from the Wizard:

The current EPISD Superintendent, in the not so distant past, enjoyed wide-spread support from much of the Leftist elite in El Paso.   Leftists young and old, some media, and others of similar ilk supported the EPISD bond, the Superintendent’s programs de jour, made excuses for his salary, and generally saluted Mr. Cabrera.

But fortune seems to have changed.  Now that the Superintendent is perceived as supporting Dori Fenenbock for congress over the current County Judge, who is widely speculated to announce a run when politically expedient, some leftists appear in revolt.

I’m no apologist for Mr. Cabrera and have for some time been critical of his leadership.  But I am truly disgusted by how fickle his Leftist friends seem to be.  I hear some being openly critical of travel expenses (exposed by The El Paso Times), how the bond is being rolled out, the Superintendent’s raise, management techniques, and more.

Last year at this time, the Left would have excused and did excuse such blunders.  But, Mr. Cabrera, you have thrown-in with the wrong candidate and the left is punishing you; or so I think.

I wish you the best and am sad to see this happen.
