Not in my backyard
April 5, 2019It appears that the old Hoover manufacturing plant located on El Paso’s west side is being considered by the feral government for use as a migrant processing center.
This idea is not being well received by some of El Paso’s business community.
“We urge the GSA and CBP to develop a long-term solution, which addresses these needs, which may involve new construction and which does not compromise the economic development opportunities in El Paso or the Borderplex region,”
Economic development
It seems that economic development is more important to some than finding a way to try to take care of the basic needs of the migrants.
We have a crisis in that the migrants are being housed under dangerous conditions.
Whether they should be let in the country, or how they got here, or who they are is not the issue right this minute.
If our policy is to let them in the country while their individual stories are being evaluated, then we need to provide them with adequate shelter.
Our congress needs to fix our immigration system. Few of us have hope that they will do that soon.
In the meantime we need to deal with the mess that has been created.

City maintained streets
April 4, 2019Follow this link if you would like to see a city supplied interactive map that indicates which government is responsible for maintaining individual streets. 
Personally I think that the title “City Maintained Streets” is a misnomer. The streets that they have actually maintained can be shown on a much smaller map.

Name that school
April 3, 2019EPISD is taking school name nominations for the new northeast middle school.
From their web site:
Applications will be accepted from to March 28 to April 18. Applicants must use the school name nomination form and submit it via email to episdbond@episd.org with the subject line “Nomination for New Northeast Middle School.” Additional documentation may be submitted along with the form.
Be certain to spell each word in the subject line correctly. Capitalization is evidently important too.

I was thinking of Deferred Maintenance as the name.
