One of our regular readers let us know the other day that the Central Appraisal District is now demanding that businesses that have property stored in self storage warehouses must file rendition forms.
Are the landlords turning over their rent rolls?
The result will be that those who file will have to pay additional taxes to each of the taxing entities.
For those that live in the EPISD the tax will amount to about 2.74% of the value of the personal property, every year.
We deserve better
Brutus
It actually gets better. You have to have the personal property form attesting that your statements are true notarized.

The greed of our elected officials knows no bounds. One more time, here is their answer: Stop the out of control spending, and learn to live on what we (the taxpayers) can afford!

Its bad enough that businesses buy equipiment, furnishings and Inventory and pay sales tax on much of that.
Then, the City charges them Property Tax every year !
Then, they are NOT allowed to depreciate that property as it becomes worth . . . .less and . . .less. . . and less . .
The business has to get rid of the equipment and Inventory and stuff to get it OFF the Property Tax rolls.
Over time the Property Taxes on equipment is much greater than the dollars spent originally on the equipment and Inventory.
I always thought that was unfair.
Now. . . BANKS and places that have their assets and Inventory in CASH do NOT have to pay Property Taxes on that.
So, if you have car parts, you have to pay Property Taxes on that, But a Bank does not have to pay Property Taxes on CASH in Inventory.

It is also unfair that in addition to high property taxes, most businesses in El Paso are being audited by the Texas State Comptroller’s Office in order to collect additional sales tax. Is the State part of this conspiracy?

Now many businesses are not static.
They buy and add equipment and Inventory all year long and also sell off equipment during each year, so the paperwork is Out-Of-This-World and the time it takes to keep track of all of it.
Many small business owners are taking everything they can to their HOMES to get it out of the business And Self Storage units.

This is one more example how the taxing entities of El Paso use the back door of the EPCAD to raise your taxes then claim they did not raise your taxes.
EPCAD are thieves that shake down the tax payers at every chance for the local government thugs.
EPCAD is the best example of taxation without representation that can be found.
Maybe it is time for us to demand the right to elect those who sit on our CAD.
