Our county hospital board has let us down again.
According to a recent article in the Times they paid $208,000 to a recruiting firm to perform the search for a new hospital administrator.
Comparing that amount with the $23,000 that the city paid when searching for a city manager or the $30,000 that EPISD paid looking for a superintendent makes the hospital board look like fools.
Even more damning is that the new hospital administrator that the board hired was working right here in El Paso and was the obvious choice.
Our county commissioners need to quit planning how to spend their astronomical pay raises and put some people on the hospital board that will get things under control.
Instead they recently appointed the city’s former chief financial officer to the board. Remember what she did to us?

Ya know, I’m just a dumb old mountain dummy, but I’d sure bet that the County and the hospital each have an overpaid HR sitting around twiddling their thumbs. Why is there even a shadow of a reason to pay some out-of-town headhunter firm $208,000.00 to do the HR department (s) job?

Because it gives the illusion of objectivity to the search. Otherwise, you get the HACEP type search where the board begins with who they’re going to appoint and goes thru the motions of a search.

To add insult to injury, UMC and the search firm also doesn’t want you to find out what was included in those fees. A considerable amount of the $208,000 was for “expenses” above and beyond the base fee. Requests for information have been blocked.
