Being stuck in the Mesa street mess that we are enduring more and more frequently I could not help but think about the difference between the downtown arena situation and the failure to extend Stanton street.
Extending Stanton would greatly help alleviate much of the traffic snarl. The project has been proposed many times over the years but has never come to fruition.
Evidently property owners would be damaged.
Some residents of the area where the city plans to build the arena are objecting to the damage that will be caused them.
None of us have to think too hard to understand the difference.

Extend Stanton Street? The city refuses to even take care of the part of Stanton Street that already exists, even on the perimeter of downtown.
They should start by simply repairing Stanton. I would tell you to check the use the city’s pavement condition website to look at the condition of Stanton, but surprise, surprise, that web page isn’t working.
The city is focused on the street car system to benefit downtown developers while Mesa Street is developing lots of serious potholes that are doing real damage to tires, wheels and front ends of cars.
