Fewer births

According to our county hospital’s June 2018 financial report,  births in the April to June quarter are down by 20% from the same quarter in 2016.

Can any of our readers help explain this to us?

We deserve better

Competition? How’s does that compare to the total number of birth certificates issued by the county?

This is part of a national trend. Births are down across the country. From surveys, there is some evidence that people in their 20s are having less sex and using more birth control. Teen births are also dropping nationally.

Birth control is cheaper and more available than ever.

Exactly, John D. 20% less are getting into UMC to have babies at TAXPAYER expense. The trend, idea, scam has always been that a few days, hours before a baby is due, people with only Border Crosser Cards and Illegals cross over, check into a hotel, stay with family until it’s “Time”. And then as if by “Magic”, an “Instant American Citizen”. Maybe this keeps up, maybe will cut OUR tax bite for UMC, because once they leave the hospital, NOBODY pays the BILLS. Can’t find them.

    Permanent resident births ?
    Or. .. . Illegal alien births ? / Combined ?
If they can’t get across . . they can’t give birth here.

For Illegal alien births . . . Maybe they are afraid that if they give birth here, the mother will be shipped back to Mexico (or in jail) and the baby will be separated and put into foster care.

One quarter doesn’t make a trend, but maybe more maternity-age mothers are leaving El Paso. A lot of people are.

Don’t forget the air. They could levy an air tax on us for breathing the air over El Paso. Obviously, quality won’t be guaranteed.

Down means less or fewer. It was greater and now it is less. Hope that helps!

My guess is travel from Juarez for instant US citizens is down. That said, when I worked in Juarez most of the folks that did this actually paid hospitals in advance or were covered by maquila health insurance. The interesting factor was some health insurance policies paid for C-sections when done for the mother’s health, but not for normal births. I’m guessing the C-section rate is probably high in this part of the world. We really do need to change birthright citizenship to be something only legally permitted residents. Folks who just pop over to have a baby or are here illegally (from any country) shouldn’t get a US citizen baby out of it.

I am not sure what “we deserve better” means in this context. We deserve a higher birth rate?

Educated young people are waiting longer and longer to have kiddos, and that may be best for everyone involved (except the tax man and the SS ponzi).
