El Paso Times subscription costs

This came in from a loyal reader:

Got my subscription [for the El Paso Times)] renewal  invoice in the mail yesterday:  $469.20.

I called the 800 number and spoke to JV.  He thanked me for being a long time subscriber (he insisted he was in El Paso, but sounded a lot like he was in Calcutta).  I said that I hoped the bill was for a five-year renewal period, but he replied that it was only for a year.

I pointed out that I paid $260 in 2016, $261 in 2017, and $330 in 2018.  I then asked to speak to someone with authority.

After a short pause to check, JV told me that he will send a new invoice for $336.

Candidly, the main reason I subscribe to the Times is that they deliver my Wall Street Journal.

Over a dollar a day? Seriously? With the circulation shrinking and the content less than a third of what it was back in the pre-internet days, the subscription price should be less than fifty cents a day.

$336 for a subscription to the ep times is an absolutely ridiculous price

i canceled back when it was $81 for a year, no way i would pay >$100, wasn’t real jornalism when it was local and certainly doesn’t seem to be actual news now that it is ran from out of town

Wow, $336 should be a life-time subscription, The Times doesn’t have any Reporters, Journalists, Writers any more. Apparently they only have copy machine operators. It’s just a copy, reproduction of The Washington Post, USA Today. Whatever “Headline” they have today, could have seen on tv News, yesterday, last week. After several years, just got to be too much of a hassle to have to call all the time, especially weekends, to even get the paper delivered. And apparently the people who run the paper don’t care. The service never got any better. And even though the “Recording” on Sundays “promised your paper would be delivered”, most times it never was and you got no credit for the ones that were not delivered several times a week, month. Maybe they should just try a “Crime and Public Corruption” sheet?

FYI, call WSJ to cancel your subscription and the Indian call center guy will also lower your rate.

OK, y’all got me barely curious enough to see what hard hitting, in- depth “news” headlines are in today’s e-fish wrap: “How much is Beto worth?” “Trans Mountain reopens.” And,”Vandals sought in damaged Border Patrol museum.” ls this what they mean by journalism 10.1?

WOW, you got in cheap! Our renewal is billed at $56 per month plus unspecified taxes. $672 per year.

The cover price is $2.50….while El Diario, considerably bigger and better, goes for $1.00
