Actually, I believe the deputy died last night and the Sheriff is now seeking the death penalty for the individual he has in custody. Channel 4 had that report.

Local media has always featured things like this at the request of local policing agencies. Since the big stories do get the most attention, this is simply an attempt to draw attention to some of the lesser known crimes in hopes of drawing community support. You should know that.

there is a complete lack of information regarding the suspect, which i find to be suspicious. no one kills a law enforcement official in an otherwise normal traffic stop for no reason. also, they released the other person in the vehicle after a short period of time. someone could go see how many times that has happened in the history of police shootings. something very strange is going on with the reporting/investigation of this capital crime

His previous long criminal history has been released, but I’d love to know his immigration status.

He’s a good old fashioned born in the USA, felon and US Citizen. Now what?

l’m somewhat surprised that the E P T didn’t announce that the “crime of the week” was that someone was overheard saying some not very pleasant things about Beto.

If you had bothered to read you might have noticed that it’s the crime stoppers (unsolved) crime of the week. They do it every week and it is specifically aimed at unsolved crimes, often those with some sort of security footage. Oh, and Crime Stoppers is something run by the EPPD in cooperation with other local law enforcement entitites.
It may not have needed to be immediately next to the article discussing the deputy’s shooting, but I think most people who actually read the newspaper on a regular basis could make the distinction that it’s the title of a regular article in the newspaper and not a commentary that a random loser committing fraud is more important than the actually terrible crime that happened (and for which a suspect was detained almost immediately).
We deserve better, but that also includes not having a blogger try to manipulate public sentiment against the daily newspaper because of some personal grudge they may have. There are tons of things to criticize the EP Times for. Hell you can start with their spelling, grammar, and command of the English language and just keep going from there. Trying to make something out of this just makes you look like incredibly biased, unreliable, and not terribly bright.
