Public input my foot

March 17, 2018

I choose to laugh at this one.

They city is having one of their special city council meetings on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 9:05 AM.

They hold these meetings in a small conference room with very little room for visitors.  They don’t make videos of these meetings available to the public so we seldom know what is said.

There is one item on the agenda:

FY 2019 Budget: Council and Public Input

Public input my foot.

Empowering

March 15, 2018

I heard a radio ad the other day featuring our Texas lieutenant governor.

He said that we should empower individuals not government.

A couple of weeks ago we got an email from our westside city representative with the subject “EMPOWERING CITY GOVERNMENT& I-10 CLOSURES”.

I agree with our lieutenant governor on this one.

If I had to empower our city government it would be to get them to fix our roads and provide the basic services that we are paying them for.

Another trip to the well

March 13, 2018

They don’t have to tell the truth when they circulate the petition to approve a new public improvement district.

Section 372.019 of the Texas local government code:

After notice and a hearing, the governing body of the municipality or county may make supplemental assessments to correct omissions or mistakes in the assessment relating to the total cost of the improvement.

So go ahead and agree to build what they want.

Remember the $50 million dollar ball park that ended up costing $76 million?

The tax poem

March 10, 2018

This was sent in recently.  We don’t know who the author is.

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table,
At which he’s fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for
peanuts anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won’t be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He’s good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he’s laid…

Put these words
Upon his tomb,
‘Taxes drove me
to my doom…’

When he’s gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

You said we could build it

March 8, 2018

There is no limit to the amount of assessment they can actually make against your property if a property improvement district is approved.

From Texas local government code:

Sec. 372.019.  SUPPLEMENTAL ASSESSMENTS.  After notice and a hearing, the governing body of the municipality or county may make supplemental assessments to correct omissions or mistakes in the assessment relating to the total cost of the improvement.

So if the petition asks for too small an amount they don’t need your permission to spend more money.
