September 12, 2017

This note was posted as a comment but deserves some more attention:

how can our students in EPISD be expected to do good on the STAAR test when it is above 90° in the classrooms.

Red pen edit:
How can our students in EPISD be expected to do well on the STAAR test when it is above 90° in the classrooms?

Property tax ranking

September 8, 2017

El Paso had the 3rd highest property tax rate (considering homestead allowances) among the nation’s 50 largest cities for taxes paid in 2016.

Our rate was 2.58%.

Milwaukee Wisconsin had the second highest rate at 2.669%.

With the community college increase of 4%, the city at 5%, EPISD at 6% and the county hospital at 6.4% it looks like we may sink to second place.

We deserve better

EPISD–an issue in the congressional campaign

September 6, 2017

It is unfortunate that EPISD has become an issue in the upcoming congressional election.

Like most of our readers, we don’t know the details relating to alleged wrongdoing at the board and employee levels.

If bad acts have been committed why is it that these people have waited until now to speak up?

Should we now expect to start learning about problems over at the county?

We deserve better

EPISD–superintendent’s pay raises

More bad news

September 1, 2017

Well the numbers are unfortunately in.

For those that live within the EPISD geographic boundaries you will see a substantial increase in tax rates from every one of your taxing entities except the county.

The increases are interesting:

  • El Paso Community College District       4%
  • City of El Paso                                              5%
  • El Paso Independent School District      6%
  • El Paso County Hospital District             6.4%

The county will not impose a tax increase on us this year.  Maybe we should get some of our other elected officials to run for congress.

We deserve better
