Are the Brios the future of Sun Metro?

July 20, 2018

We may have figured out what Sun Metro is really doing with the new Brio lines they are setting up across the city.

Driver-less cars will be here sooner than any of us think.  Even if we are wrong about this ride hailing services will continue to grow.

The net effect for Sun Metro might be that their only income opportunity is for long haul (across town) transportation.

Other solutions, be they driver-less cars or ride hailing/sharing, will become more attractive both from an economic and convenience standpoint.  We are seeing  shorter runs being handled more and more by these new alternatives in big cities across the nation.

Is Sun Metro trying to build a new delivery model with the Brio?

Some of you will probably take us to task for presuming that anyone at the city can think that far ahead.

We deserve better

Children’s hospital shows a profit

July 18, 2018

Something remarkable happened in May.

The following graphic was derived (we used cut and paste to remove the main hospital and other entities) from the May 2018 financial report published by our county hospital.

According to these figures the children’s hospital was profitable for the month of May!

We don’t know if there were unusual accounting entries during the month so we will have to wait to see what they do next month.

This is better!

El Paso Water Utilities

July 18, 2018

Our water utility published this chart as part of their 2018 comprehensive annual financial report:

According to the chart El Paso has the lowest water rates of the ten largest cities in Texas.

Does the country know that we exist?

July 17, 2018
A reader sent this in:
A ‘rare’ rock rattlesnake at Wyler Aerial Tramway and the City of El Paso is NOT EVEN MENTIONED!!!
Ain’t that some shiznit?
Hell, when the attack aircraft crashed on White Sands Missile Range two weeks ago the FOx News reporter identified Holloman AFB as being 175 miles south of Albuquerque and not 60 miles north of El Paso.
Must be something in the water…

What are the real numbers?

July 16, 2018

With EPISD shrinking it makes sense that they will need fewer teachers.

A lot of the recent activity on this blog has been dealing with the displacement of teachers.

We have not heard about real numbers.  How many jobs need to be cut?

How many teachers will retire this year?

What will the reductions mean for the newly graduated people coming out of our local universities?  Will these people find jobs anyway–just at other schools?

If EPISD was forthcoming about the real numbers maybe their teachers could calm down.

Hopefully some of our readers will help us to understand.

We deserve bettter.
