This came in from Dan Wever:
I have stated many times that there were many more EPISD employees involved in the cheating scandal than were actually caught or charged and many times I have been asked if so much cheating was really going on why didn’t someone report it? There are two main reasons, Fear for their jobs and Money. I won’t even address the fear for jobs as I am sure everyone understands how this works. So let’s just take a peek at the Money aspect.
The two women that are scheduled to be sentenced soon after pleading guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States were treated very kindly concerning their pay while involved with the EPISD cheating scandal.
Vanessa Forman was a principal earning $60,996.53 as an elementary Principal when Dr. Garcia arrived (206) When Dr. Garcia was arrested (2011) she was earning $91,408.36 as a leader in the cheating scheme or an increase of $30,411.83 or a 50% increase in 5 years. She continued working at the EPISD for a couple of years before being forced out. She is probably too young, with only 19 years of service when she left, to retire, but when she does the money will be there to improve her retirement benefits.
Maria Flores is old enough to retire and probably has done so. Her pay in 2006 when Garcia arrived was $62,363.63 as an elementary principal and when he was arrested in 2011 she was earning $115,572.51for an increase of $53,208.88 or 85%. Her annual retirement is over $68,000 which will be tough to live on in El Paso without school work as she gave up her educational licenses but I am sure it is much easier that what the children that she cheated out of an education are having to endure for the rest of their lives.
