TEA ratings (A-F) of our school districts

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has published their state legislature mandated A-F 2016 ratings for Texas schools.

The A-F ratings system is a new one and is sometimes criticized for the methodology used.  The system is evolving but at least applies a fixed standard against each school district and its schools.

The system may be improved in the future.  The 2016 ratings give us a look at how our school districts are rated.  Remember that they are rated using the same methodology as all other Texas school districts.

The TEA has provided grades in four domains:

Domain I–student achievement (STAAR test scores)

Domain II–student progress (compares each student’s STAAR scores from last year to this year)

Domain III–closing the gaps (achievement of economically disadvantaged students)

Domain IV–post secondary readiness

The results are summarized below.  Beside each letter grade is the numerical score TEA gave the district.

Dr. Noe helps us

Our thanks go to city representative Dr. Noe for item 24.4 which he placed on the Tuesday, January 10, 2017 city council agenda.

Discussion and action to direct the City Manager to provide realistic and accurate cost estimates for the following items regarding the Convention Center/MPC site:

 

  1. To provide an accurate cost estimate of the potential loss of revenue from the Convention Center, the loss of revenue from tax rebates, the cost of not honoring the 380 agreements in place and the loss of the HOT tax revenue and how that will impact paying the baseball stadium debt.
  2. To provide an estimate for the cost liabilities associated with canceling the events that are already booked at the Convention Center.
  3. Provide an estimate for liabilities associated with the 380 agreements in place and any other direct or indirect costs involved.
  4. Estimates of any other direct or indirect costs involved with moving the MPC site to the Convention Center site.
  5. Provide the total amount that has already been spent on this project.

Coronado reconstruction

Elrichboy over at elchuqueno.com recently posted this piece.

According to an EPISD spokesman the renovations of Coronado High School will not include the football stadium.

That would be good news and would be contrary to what we have been hearing on the street.

When they start construction they will have to put the portables somewhere.  Will they put them on the football field (after replacing the artificial turf)?

This will be interesting.

Deja vu?

We are hearing more and more frequently that EPISD teachers and administrators are working in an environment where they feel that speaking up for what they feel is right will result in punishment and/or termination.

Also disturbing are reports from business and community leaders that the EPISD superintendent is an educational light-weight and that he does not think out his ideas.

Wasn’t it this kind of environment that led to the “cheating” scandal?
