FWIW, y’all should be aware that to say they are canceling “elective” surgeries does not really mean much of anything. Elective means the patient elects, or chooses, to undergo a given procedure. IOW, the odds of there being very many of those at UMC should be very, very low. Medicaid is not going to cover such procedures, and most insurances will also bock at paying for them. So, I doubt that these “cancelations” really amount to much of anything. Personally, I think it is just UMC blowing more smoke.

Anyone who undergoes surgery at UMC during this period has to sign a waiver to release UMC from any liability, even if they die due to a sterilization-related problem. What the waiver doesn’t say is that if you die, UMC still wants to be paid.
And they say greed doesn’t pay.

Elective? Yeah, they do a lot of medicaid nip-and-tucks at UMC 🙂

Elective surgeries include knee and hip replacement for which medicaid pays as well as the removal of certain skin cancers. I’m sure there are others — non-emergency surgeries — that fall into that category.
