If a primary purpose of our public schools now is to develop competent workers, shouldn’t those businesses pay a portion of our education costs?
Right now the local portion of the costs are paid through property taxes.
If businesses are beneficiaries of our investment in education shouldn’t they help pay the bill?
Could they pay based upon their number of employees?
Would a percentage of the total payroll be more appropriate as a way to recognize the earning power created in our schools?
Some may consider these to be absurd alternatives to our present system.
We need to do something to fix our financing system for education.
We deserve better

How can we ever expect to attract new business to this nowhere town if they find they’ll have to pay for local schools? Providing, of course, that City Council doesn’t give them the extra incentive of waiving that fee/tax/cost for years and years, like they already do with those few that do come into town.

If the business were getting good employees we would have better businesses here paying a better salary. Sorry many of students coming out of EPISD CANT communicate it follow directions and lack basic skills. Businesses are also home owners paying tax so in a sense paying twice.

Yet, as statistical comparisons have shown, EPISD is not better or worse than most TX districts. Less ethical for sure, but not less educational.
This is our age and students graduate into a post-literate society.

Oh crap!! Ya, let’s stick it to the businesses! That is a really good idea. We can sit and watch as our businesses move right across the bridge to Juarez.
