It looks like EPISD is having a special board meeting Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 8:30 AM to discuss revisions to the superintendent’s employment contract.

EPISD–winter stipend
February 4, 2020It looks like someone over at EPISD is proposing that the winter stipend not be paid next year:
My recollection is that the district offered the teachers a one-time stipend as part of the penny swap election.
We would appreciate hearing from someone who knows what the situation is here.

A case of coercion
February 2, 2020This came in from Dan Wever:
Students were told earlier in the year that they HAD to apply to three institutions of higher learning for admittance to their facility.
Many times these applications require fees to even apply.
The announcement today at Franklin High School in the EPISD said that all graduating senior students that do not turn in their proof of complying with this directive will not be allowed to WALK with their graduating class.
I would hope some smarter people (if there are any left) would make sure that this does not happen.

Rewarding failure
January 24, 2020EPISD has a contract with an out of town marketing firm “to implement a comprehensive long-term plan to market the District’s unique instructional programs and the District’s message, target market, method of communication, deliverables, timelines, costs, and methods used to assess results of the promotion, and expected outcomes.”
The contract was awarded June 26, 2016 . With a third extension of the contract the district will have spent $312,500.
The 2017-2018 school year showed a decrease of 1,201 students.
The 2018-2019 school year shows a decrease of 1,829 students.
It doesn’t look like this money was well spent.

Crisis of confidence
January 14, 2020Take a look at this chart taken from a report about a March 2019 survey of EPISD personnel.
The report shows that at the time of the survey the district had 8,307 employees. Evidently 3,371 elected to participate in the survey. According to the report the survey responses went directly to the Texas Association of School Boards.
Only 36 percent of the respondents agreed with the statement “I believe that district leaders are honest and trustworthy”.
Whoa!
