City council doesn’t want to hear from us

May 11, 2017

Our city government evidently thinks that it might not have the authority to build an arena instead of a “multi-purpose performing arts and entertainment facility”.

The language on the ballot sought authorization to build a multi-purpose facility.  It turns out that they really wanted to build an arena.  Maybe they thought we would not vote for one.

Now in an effort to get authority to pull the bait and switch they have gone to court in Austin.  State law would have allowed the city to do the same thing in El Paso.

Taking the issue to Austin makes it impractical for most El Pasoans to have their thoughts heard.

City council should be ashamed.

Everything personal

May 10, 2017

We find it remarkable that while the media is criticizing our current president for his lack of accomplishments–after all he has been in office 100 days, there are protesters outside the white house complaining about the president’s climate policies.

Is the criticism about actions and plans or is it about the individual?

We deserve better

What value does our local newspaper bring?

May 9, 2017

The Times is not doing well.

We heard the other day that on some days less than 9,000 newspapers are bought.

They have been promoting their on-line version.

Yet it seems that even there we have more immediate sources of news available to us.

Take a look at this graphic.

Two local TV stations delivered the horrible news to us faster than the Times.

Is there any hope for the Times?

We deserve better

Local blogs doing good

May 8, 2017

We had a good blogging day in El Paso the other day.

Refuse the Juice took the Times editor to the woodshed.

El Chuqueno reminded us to stay grounded.

They both helped to make things better.

Congress, heal thyself

May 7, 2017

According to this government web page over two million people fly on airlines every day in the United States.

Recently one passenger was treated horribly by some airline and airport employees and our feral congress has decided to take action.

An Associated Press headline read “Improve your service or we’ll do it, lawmakers tell airline executives”.

Talk about grandstanding!

Wouldn’t we be better off if congress worked to fix itself first?

We deserve better
