EPISD–transcript credits still a problem

March 16, 2017

The recently published “Transfer Credits Follow-Up Audit” of EPISD’s process points out that the district still is not awarding and denying credit to students that transfer into the district according to the district’s own rules as well as the Texas Education Agency rules.

People in our community have gone to jail for violating those rules.

Others are accused of similar violations today and face trial and possible imprisonment.

Yet our new management team and board of trustees have not fixed the situation.

We have not even heard them make statements about how they intend to address the problems.

We deserve better

Cityofdust historical blog

March 15, 2017

Elrichboy over at elchuqueno.com pointed out another worthwhile blog the other day.

Cityofdust is a twelve or thirteen year old blog that deals with southwestern United States history.

We have enjoyed reading many of their posts.

Check it out when you have a chance.

Our thanks to both blogs.

Pretending not to know

March 14, 2017

What should we make of the fact that several of our local officials read the local blogs and  do not take steps to fix the problems that are pointed out?

Do they really think that we will forget?

Bond projects continue to cost more

March 13, 2017

Thankfully our mayor vetoed city council’s resolution that set the date for public meetings necessary for the city to issue $40 million in certificates of obligation.

Voter approval is not required before they can issue the certificates.

What do they want the money for?

Take a look at this chart that was part of a presentation that council saw before they approved the resolution:

Much of what they want money for relates to the lack of adequate funding from the quality of life bonds.

From what we can see the San Jacinto restrooms, westside pool, aquatic centers, eastside pools, spray parks and the project true up are all projects that they are now telling us that require more money.

The voters were told by the former city manager, chief financial officer, and mayor that the almost half a billion dollars that eventually got approved would be sufficient to build the facilities.

The mayor wants the money requirements to be included as part of the annual budget process.

Thank you Mr. Lesser.

EPISD–who’s first

March 12, 2017

The EPISD board has voted to sell $200 million of bonds out of the $669 million that the voters authorized.

Who’s first

It will be interesting to see which schools they work on first.

Will the spending be based on need or on satisfying the protected few?
