A recent Harvard Business Review article offering leadership advice to CEOs and executives recommended, “If you are doing cutbacks to save job losses, you must lead by example and do cutbacks that impact your own day-to-day as well. If you don’t, there is a danger that your staff will feel like saps, doing sacrifices while the C-suite continues unaffected. Get a commitment for a pay cut from your senior leaders. As CEO, you should take the largest salary cut yourself.” This sounds so obvious, but it rarely—if ever—happens.

Ah Harvard, the place who gave the infamous child sex peddler and office.
People tend toward self-preservation, but those who think they are better tend to feel that lower-class people are responsible for their situation. I bet Ocasio-Cortez wouldn’t take a cut in pay right now despite the national coronavirus issue.
Harvard has a $40 billion dollar endowment yet chooses not to give free tuition, so the hypocrisy here is unsettling.

We’re all learning our personal lessons in resilience these days. For me that has come up as it is a good thing to have friends in low places, i.e., the “little people” we mostly take for granted and upon whom our whole survival depends – postal workers; checkout clerks; supermarket stockers; pharmacists; butchers; etc. You can live without investment bankers and billionaires almost indefinitely but try living without a plumber when your sewer line is clogged.
