Bound to fail

May 12, 2017

According to the Times a lawsuit has been filed claiming that Texas state senate bill 4 violates the 10th amendment to the United States constitution.

It makes sense that some groups are opposed to bill.  What would make even more sense is if they based their objections on an argument that they can win.

The wording of the 10th is:

The powers not delegated to the United States  by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Evidently one of the statements in the lawsuit is “SB4 supports otherwise to wrest this autonomy from local governments…”.

The 10th does not address the autonomy of local governments.  That is done in our state constitution.

Our state government has powers over our local governments just as our feral government has powers over the various states.

The lawsuit is basically asking a court to declare that state governments have no power over local ones.  Chaos would be the result if that were to happen.

The Times did not mention this.  Maybe everyone involved should read our constitution.

Everything personal

May 10, 2017

We find it remarkable that while the media is criticizing our current president for his lack of accomplishments–after all he has been in office 100 days, there are protesters outside the white house complaining about the president’s climate policies.

Is the criticism about actions and plans or is it about the individual?

Congress, heal thyself

May 7, 2017

According to this government web page over two million people fly on airlines every day in the United States.

Recently one passenger was treated horribly by some airline and airport employees and our feral congress has decided to take action.

An Associated Press headline read “Improve your service or we’ll do it, lawmakers tell airline executives”.

Talk about grandstanding!

Wouldn’t we be better off if congress worked to fix itself first?

H1B abuse

April 22, 2017

The other day our president announced changes to the H1B visa program.

H1B visas are used to allow foreign nationals to come to the United States and work.  They are to be used when companies cannot fill jobs with American citizens.

Some say that some companies game the system and use H1B’s to hire less expensive workers.

According to news reports,  the new rules will require that competitive/market wages be paid to the foreign worker.

It seems that this might in some cases open up jobs to our citizens and as such sounds like a good thing.

H1B issues

March 24, 2017

We are hearing news stories that our H1B visa program is broken.

Evidently many companies are having trouble finding employees with the skills that they need and are trying to hire workers from foreign countries.

When companies want to hire foreign workers with special skills to come work in the United States, the workers frequently need work visas.

The H1B program is one way to obtain the visas.

While there is talk about the high cost and general scarcity of the H1B visas we are not hearing about why the visas are necessary in the first place.

Why is it that these companies cannot find U.S. citizens to fill these jobs?

Are our young people not willing to learn the skills that the companies are looking for?

Are our universities not teaching what the companies need?

Is it that the companies can pay less money for the foreign employees that they bring over here?

Maybe our readers can help us to understand this issue better.
