We have many things to be thankful for.
Will Rogers said this:
“Be thankful we’re not getting all the government we’re paying for.”

Our speaker of the house of representatives is in an interesting position.
He disappointed many last year as he accommodated the wishes of the incumbent president.
Then he chose not to fully support his party’s presidential candidate.
In January he will face a different situation with the republicans having control of both the house and the senate as well as the presidency. The republicans need to make things happen.
Predictions don’t cost us much so consider this one:
The new president is a corporate executive. He has experience handling subordinates and knows that powerful people do not often just fade away.
One solution is to keep him close. Appoint him to a cabinet position–not a premier one like defense or state, but instead to something that he should care about like education.
Tell him to clean up the department and then maybe he will get a promotion. If he fails he will hear “you’re fired”.

It seems that most of our city council would prefer that the new arena be built on a little used railway yard next to interstate 10.
The problem is that the city tells us that the railroad wants a king’s ransom for the land, namely the closing of many railroad crossings in the city.
Whereas the city can use eminent domain to condemn and take the properties of individuals they cannot do so with the railroad.
The rail yard in question seems to be used very little if at all since the railroad built a 2,200 acre site in nearby Santa Teresa, New Mexico.

Come January the republicans will have control over all of the elective branches of our feral government.
At the state level Republicans will occupy 33 or so of the state governorships.
The fifty state legislatures are currently 68% republican.
They have an unusual opportunity to execute their agendas. Whatever happens in these next few years will solely be their responsibility.

The Times seems to have suddenly developed a concern about government construction projects.
They recently printed a front page article that indicated that our new army hospital is two years behind schedule and $22 million over the original $648 million budget.
The Times did not seem to be so concerned when the San Jacinto project came in $1.5 million over the original $4.5 million budget.
San Jacinto was 33% over budget. The new hospital is 3% over budget.
San Jacinto was a city park that was remodeled. The new hospital is a multi-story six building medical campus with a lot of technology.
Maybe the army should have bought something from the Times.
