EPISD bonds–counting their chickens

September 6, 2016

The people over at EPISD have already hired someone to help with the bonds that the voters have not even approved yet.

There is talk around town that the district has already chosen the team that will get the money,  including the building contractors.

This comment came in the other day and deserves to be a post:

Looks like the post at Refuse The Juice may be correct!

Check out Recent Employment Assignments at this link: https://www.episd.org/employment/assignments.php

The 8th name down on the list got a job that was created out of nowhere by Arrieta-Candeleria called Executive Director of Planning and Innovative Schools Construction. Could he be the same Carlos Gallinar that is the Deputy Director of the City of El Paso Planning Division???? He will probably make about $125,000 a year with EPISD!

Looks like she made up another position called Coordinator of the Office of the Deputy Superintendent of Finance and Operations! Seems to be like a Chief of Staff position that will even keep her calendar for her! Probably another $75,000 or more per year!!

Wonder who that job was created for? Let me guess…someone else that works for the City of El Paso????

It’s good to be the king!

Electronic devices and city council meetings

August 31, 2016

This came in from Helen Marshall:

We don’t have to listen

August 28, 2016

Watching the video of a recent city council meeting there was an item on the agenda that council voted to postpone consideration of.

Evidently some members of the public had signed up to speak about the item.

Incredibly the city clerk pointed out that those people would not be allowed to speak since the item had been postponed.

Arrogance

Members of the public took the trouble to interrupt their normal routines to appear before council to express their thoughts.

Council ignored them.

EPISD bonds–a new team?

DavidK over at Refuse the Juice posted a frightening thought the other day.

It is a worthwhile read.

How much can you afford?

August 23, 2016

The Wednesday, August 17, 2016 front page of The El Paso Times was a doozy.

All of the articles were about potential tax increases from local governments.

Our city council wants a 5.29% tax increase.  The mayor vetoed their motion.

Our county hospital wants to raise their tax rate the maximum amount they can without triggering an election that would require approval by the voters.  Even with that increase they are projecting a $19 million deficit.  Keep in mind that this is a situation left to us by our former hospital administrator.  The new guy has only been on the job about a month and is the inheritor of this mess.

The El Paso Independent School District is calling for a $668.7 million bond election because of declining student enrollment.  Elrichiboy pointed out in Count Your Blessings how fortunate we are that enrollment has not reached zero.  If the bond issue passes school taxes will go up 15.25%.  At least we get to vote on this one.

We deserve better
