Project Amistad buses

Does anyone know what the financial details are concerning Project Amistad now running the west side feeder routes for Sun Metro?

Feeding Brio was a post that explained the bus routes.

Up until recently Sun Metro serviced the routes but now Project Amistad is doing it.

Is Sun Metro paying Project Amistad to run almost empty buses around the west side, or has someone figured out how to get the state and the feds to pay for this?

Simple math

We received this note from Helen Marshall:

I just received an appeal from the World Wildlife Fund for a donation.  Included is a little card for your wallet entitled “Tip Chart.”  It shows you what the tip would be, for example, for $10 – for 15% if would be $1.50 and for 20% it would be $2.00
Have we reached the point in the US where no one is able to figure out that twenty percent of ten dollars is two dollars?
Do we deserve better?  Or even want better?

Almost as bad as you can get

Well things are getting measurably worse.

In 2014 we had the 5th highest effective residential property tax rate among the 50 largest cities in the United States.  See 5th highest taxes.

In 2015 we had the 3rd highest.  See Climbing to the top.

For 2017 we were the 2nd highest.

Remember that most of the quality of life bonds have not been issued yet nor have most of the school district bonds.

Derailed

The Texas department of transportation recently told city council that the bridges going over I-10 in the downtown area will all have to be replaced.

Our streetcars have not even started to operate and now we are being told that they will have to be re-routed since they travel over two of the bridges.

It would be hard to make this stuff up.

Eminent domain

The word on the street is that the city has sent out letters to property owners near the proposed arena informing them that the city intends to take their properties through eminent domain.

We were told originally that the city would not use eminent domain.

Baloney!

They are doing this in spite of the fact that the arena project is tied up in the courts.

Shameful!
